Barbara Skamser, 65, San Francisco, Calif., died there Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, in home hospice after a protracted battle with cancer.

Barbara Skamser, 65, San Francisco, Calif., died there Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, in home hospice after a protracted battle with cancer.

She was born Nov. 24, 1942, in the state of Washington. She grew up in Santa Rosa, Calif., where she graduated from high school and where her father, Bob Skamser, was employed in the newspaper’s circulation department. Barbara was a longtime San Francisco resident where she was a businesswoman.

She was active in her church and in charitable work. She enjoyed crafts, politics, good books, the cinema and dining out. Barbara was a person who was devoted to serving others.

She is survived by two sisters, Candace Bedsole, Grass Valley, Calif., and Debera Burke, Sumner, Wash.; her special friend and companion of 25 years, Charlie Gibbs, San Francisco, and by her feline roommate, Char Two. Barbara is also survived by her cousin and close friend, Paul Skamser Jr., Superior.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her aunt and uncle, Edith and Syd Skamser. Syd resided in Billings Park prior to moving to California.

Services and interment will be in California.
