Glimpse future of SHS hockey

Superior High School boys hockey fans can get a glimpse into the future this weekend when the Spartans compete in the Lakeview Varsity Boys Hockey Tournament at Mars Lakeview Arena in Duluth.

Superior High School boys hockey fans can get a glimpse into the future this weekend when the Spartans compete in the Lakeview Varsity Boys Hockey Tournament at Mars Lakeview Arena in Duluth.

The tournament gets underway today with the host Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers playing Moose Lake at 5:45 p.m. and Duluth Central taking on the Bismark Arrows at 8 p.m.

Superior opens against Eveleth at 9:15 a.m. Saturday with quarterfinal action wrapping with Team Wisconsin U-16’s taking on St. Cloud Tech at 11:30 a.m.

The Spartans will play either Team Wisconsin or St. Cloud Tech in their second game on Friday. The winners play at 6:15 p.m. and the losers at 8:30 p.m.

The tournament wraps up Sunday with the championship game at 3 p.m.

Playing forward for the Spartans this weekend will be seniors Pat Dalbec, John LeDoux, Nate Miner, Dan Kolenda and Taylor Leuthner and juniors Kellen McCoshen, Tyler Plunkett, Kyle Wilander, Justin Cannon, Shawn Hoff

The defensemen are juniors Andrew Bronson, Chris Bishop and Jake Mergen; sophomores Jake Tollas and David Dalbec; and freshman Brett Bukowski.

Superior’s goaltenders are Tony Ledin and Joel Pettingill.
