Hatchery tours, canoe trips gyotaku (fish printing) on T-shirts is also available. Participants may bring their own shirts or purchase one for $5 at the event. • June 7: National Trails Day Celebration at the Douglas County Bird Sanctuary offers something for the whole family, with coffee at 7:30 a.m. and a guided birding hike at 8 a.m. A nature program begins at 10 a.m., free lunch is served at noon and a hike of one to seven miles begins at 1 p.m. on the North Country Trail. The Bird Sanctuary Clubhouse is three miles south of Solon Springs on Highway 53, right on County Road M for 1/2 mile, right on Bird Road for 3/4 mile, the clubhouse is a log building on the right.
• June 7: The Les Voigt State Fish Hatchery, near Bayfield, hosts an open house as part of Wisconsin’s Free Fishing Weekend activities. The event runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with tours of the cold-water hatchery. DNR staff will provide activities throughout the day including casting games, fly tying, archery demonstrations, a cookout and more. Attendees can also hike the nature trail. The Les Voigt State Fish Hatchery is two miles south of Bayfield and 18 miles north of Highway 2 on Highway 13.
