Authorities have released the names of the two infants critically injured in a one-vehicle crash in Burnett County on Friday evening.
The Wisconsin State Patrol reported that Milo and Mason Smith, each one month old and from Naples, Fla., were passengers in a car operated by their mother, Jennifer Marie Smith, 38, also of Naples, Fla. Also in the car was Jennifer Smith’s 3-year-old daughter, Malainey Smith.
Authorities said alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash, which happened just before 6 p.m. Friday on Wisconsin Highway 70 near Hertel when Jennifer Smith’s westbound Chevrolet Malibu left the road and struck a tree. Charges may be filed, the Patrol reported.
Smith and the three children in the car all were transported to a hospital in Spooner. The two infants then were airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with what the Patrol said were life-threatening injuries. They were in critical condition at last report, authorities said Saturday evening.
Jennifer and Malainey Smith suffered non-life-threatening injuries, the Patrol reported.
The children were riding in the rear seat and were in child safety seats at the time of the crash.
