College volleyball: St. Scholastica and UWSUWS continues strong start in Texas and St. Scholastica drops pair.

Wisconsin-Superior pushed its season-opening winning streak to four Saturday with two five-set wins at the Dallas Invitational.
The Yellowjackets, who were dominant Friday in sweeping past Sul Ross State University (Texas) and the University of Dallas, slipped past Millsaps College on Saturday before doing the same in a rematch with the tournament host. Seniors Kitty Tynen (16) and Brooke Vonasek (15) combined for 31 kills and junior Keely Deadrick, of Esko, tallied 32 set assists in a 3-2 win over Millsaps (25-27, 25-16, 21-25, 25-18, 15-9).
Against Dallas in their tournament finale, the Yellowjackets again won 3-2 (25-19, 23-25, 25-18, 19-25, 15-11) thanks to a whopping 48 set assists from Deadrick and 15 kills from Alissa Autio, a junior from Floodwood.
St. Scholastica drops pair
After opening its season with two decisive wins Friday at St. Olaf’s tournament, St. Scholastica continued its road trip Saturday with a pair of losses at the St. Mary’s tournament in Winona, Minn.
The Saints dropped their tourney opener to Wisconsin-La Crosse in three sets (25-22, 25-20, 26-24) despite 15 kills from senior outside hitter Kayla Horbacz and 32 set assists from junior setter Erika Birkeland.
Later in the day, St. Scholastica fell in four sets to host St. Mary’s (25-21, 23-25, 25-22, 25-19). Horbacz and Birkeland again led the way, with 16 kills and 28 set assists, respectively, for the Saints (2-2).
St. Scholastica heads to Spokane, Wash., later this week for a tournament.
