Margaret Mary Manthey

Margaret Mary Manthey, 89, longtime Superior area resident, died Saturday, April 19, 2008, at Golden Living Center, Superior.

She was born in Superior Oct. 29, 1918, the daughter of John and Mary (Kaviar) Stepkala.

Margaret was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Superior and the Sokal lodge.

Margaret was employed by Jeno’s in Duluth for a number of years.

She is survived by one son, Herb Manthey, Superior; eight nieces and nephews, Mary Anderson and Irene (Robert) Anderson, both of Superior, Thomas (Delores) Sitek, Sun City West, Ariz., Joanne (Kenneth) Johnson, Hackensack, Minn., John Stepkala, Carol (Vern) Bushli and Georgia (Joe) Hertenstein, all of Minneapolis and James (Diane) Koch, Milwaukee.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Manthey on April 8, 1977, after 31 years of marriage; her parents, John and Mary Stepkala; three sisters, Anna, Helen and Pauline; and one brother, Joseph Stepkala.

Visitation begins after 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Superior and continues until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial with the Rev. Dean Buttrick as celebrant.

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Superior.

Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
