A woman is dead after reportedly being hit by a car following a fight outside a bar in Polk County, Wis., early Saturday.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to Staples Lake Bar, 1977 Polk Barron St. in Johnstown Township, at about 2:30 a.m. on a report of a fight with injuries, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
When deputies arrived, they found several people injured, including a woman lying unresponsive in the parking lot who reportedly had been struck by a vehicle as it fled the parking lot, the sheriff’s office reported.
The woman was taken to Cumberland Hospital, where she died, according to the sheriff’s office. Her identity has not been released.
Witnesses provided a license plate of the vehicle that fled, and officers were able to locate the vehicle and make contact with its owner and a second man, authorities said.
Two men were arrested. A 26-year-old Comstock, Wis., man is being held on suspicion of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle. A 26-year-old Barronett, Wis., man is being held on suspicion of substantial battery for injuries sustained by another person during the incident.
The incident remains under investigation.
