The World of Outlaws Late Model Series will make a rare stop at Amsoil Speedway in Superior on Friday night.
The popular series will use the Superior stop as the kickoff to its Wild West Tour, which hits tracks in five states and Canada over an eight-day stretch. The series hasn’t been in the Twin Ports since 2010, when Wisconsin veteran Jimmy Mars won the $10,000 top prize. Last year’s series stop in Superior was rained out, but Friday’s forecast calls for a high of 82 with only a 10 percent chance of rain.
Mars is expected to compete, as well as Solon Spring driver Brady Smith and 2011 WOO rookie of the year Pat Doar of New Richmond, Wis. Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., is the current series points leader and has three tour wins this season, while defending series champion Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., has six victories.
