Fr. Norbert R. West, 90, died Saturday in the House of Loreto in Canton, Ohio, after a long illness.
Fr. Norbert R. West, 90, died Saturday in the House of Loreto in Canton, Ohio, after a long illness.
Born in Chicago, Ill., he lived in Canton for the past 23 years. He was a graduate of St. Procopius Seminary in Lisle, Ill., and St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore, Md.
Father was ordained a Catholic priest May 25, 1957, for the Diocese of Superior, where he served as pastor in parishes in Cameron and Mercer. During World War II, he was a captain in the Army Air Force and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Victoria Wisniewski, and a brother, Kenneth West.
West is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Mary Wisniewski of Colorado Springs, Colo., and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Our Lady of Charity at the House of Loreto in Canton. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Erie, Pa. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Congregation of the Divine Spirit, 2812 Harvard Ave. NW, Canton, OH 44709.
