Gilbertson tournament this weekend

The second annual Keith Gilbertson Memorial Hockey Tournament will take place Friday through Sunday at the Superior Ice Arena.

The tournament, which consists of six 30-and-over teams and six 40-and-older teams, is a fundraiser for the Keith Gilbertson Scholarship Fund, which benefits Superior Senior High graduates.

Two $500 scholarships were set up last year and after last year’s successful event, two $1,000 scholarships will be given out this year.

The tournament starts at 3:15 p.m. Friday and runs through the championship games on Sunday.

A dinner, silent auction and dance is planned for 6 p.m. Saturday at the Superior Curling Club. All events are open to the public.

Local teams competing are the UWS Oldtimers (former alumni players), Schultz’s Bar, Palace Bar, C’s/Capri Bar, Jimmy’s/T.J. Champions Bar and Lord Stanleys Bar.

Other teams competing are from Winnipeg, Two Harbors, Duluth, Hayward and the Iron Range.
