Marie Josephine Hanner, 80, Minong, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at St. Mary’s Medical Center Hospice of Duluth, surrounded by her family.

Marie Josephine Hanner, 80, Minong, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at St. Mary’s Medical Center Hospice of Duluth, surrounded by her family.

Marie was born Nov. 11, 1927, in St. Paul to the late Charles Amel and Mary Agnes (Pientok) Thain.

Marie graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy in St. Paul. She married William Hanner on Feb. 17, 1947, in Webster, S.D.; they enjoyed 61 years together.

Marie was employed for 3M until 1975, retiring after 25 years of faithful service.

She was a member of the Women’s Group ELCA at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Minong. Marie often held the Women’s Circle meetings at her home.

She loved to play games with her grandchildren and spend time with her family.

Among those who survive and gratefully shared her life is her husband of 61 years, Bill, Minong; one son, William C. Hanner, St. Croix Falls; two daughters, Patricia Atsatt, Billings, Mont. and Eve Marie (Jeffery) Linna, Grand Rapids, Minn; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; one sister-in-law, Anita Thain, Gardnerville, Nev.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Thain.

A Celebration of Marie’s life will be held noon Saturday at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Minong. Pastor Craig Nelson will officiate. A gathering will be held 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
