The Northwood Evergreens girls basketball team won its opening game in the WIAA tournament with a 70-19 win over LCO Tuesday night in Minong.
The Evergreens will now host Drummond in a WIAA regional semifinal game at 7 p.m. Thursday. Drummond advanced with a 56-19 win over the Bayfield Trollers.
The winner will play either Solon Springs or Siren for the regional championship at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Webster.
Northwood took an 18-8 lead after one quarter then opened up a 47-10 lead after limiting LCO to just two points in the second quarter.
The Evergreens also outscored LCO 12-7 in the third quarter and 11-2 in the fourth.
The Evergreens had 12 different players score, led by Ashley Albano’s 14 points. Deanna Scheller added 11 points, Annie Block had 10, Janie Murray eight, Taylor Fellbaum seven, Amy Hermeier six, Erin Okonek four, Erica Goettl three, Ashley Block, Lisa Love and Bailey Burns two each and Ashlee Blegan one. Elizabeth Tom led LCO with nine points.
Northwood was 16-of-23 from the free-throw line and LCO was 3-of-6.
