Anton W. Griph, 80, formerly of Superior, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, in Middle River Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Jan. 23, 1928, in Litchville, N.D., and had moved from Litchville at about the age of two and lived and worked in several states including southern Wisconsin, Michigan, both North and South Dakota and Arizona.
He was employed as a farm hand at various farms and riding stables, including Charlie Allen’s riding stable in Superior. He returned to Wisconsin as his final stop in his journeys. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his children, Toni Price and Richard Andrew Griph, both in Oregon; his brothers, Donald (Marlene) Griph of Goose Creek, S.C. and Gerald (Dot) Griph of Gilbert, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theresa and Carl Griph, his brothers, Carl and Harry and a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Paul Schmidt.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Downs Funeral Home with Carol Edwards officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Veterans Memorial Park in Greenwood Cemetery.
