Prep sporting action is hot and heavy around the area tonight starting with the Superior High School girls hockey team hosting Tomahawk in a WIAA regional game.
The Spartans (7-12-1) and the Hatchets play at 6 p.m. at the Superior Ice Arena. The winner will play at Hayward on Tuesday night.
The SHS girls basketball team can win the Lake Superior Conference outright with a win at home tonight over Proctor (8-14, 7-4). A loss would give the Spartans (11-5, 9-1) a share of the LSC title.
The Northwestern girls are also in a battle for first place in the Heart O’ North Conference were the Tigers (16-2) are tied with Hayward (13-3) and Barron (13-5) atop the standings with 10-2 records.
The Tigers are at Ladysmith while Hayward is at Chetek and Barron is at Spooner.
The basketball teams from Northwood in Minong are also in doubleheader action tonight at Prairie Farm. The boys game begins at 6 p.m. and the girls game is at 7:30 p.m.
