Fox 21, KQDS-TV in Duluth, is preparing to add a morning newscast to its schedule, according to job postings on its website.

The website says the station is seeking a morning anchor/producer “to help launch a new one-hour morning newscast,” along with a morning meteorologist and morning production leader, all full time. It also is seeking to hire an assistant engineer.

The website does not give more details. The station’s news director, Dan Clouse, and general manager Jackie Bruenjes declined to comment Friday.

The media website northpine.com, in reporting the job openings, noted that Fox affiliates often air morning news programs at 7 a.m., when competing ABC, CBS and NBC affiliates air their national morning programs. The morning news programs by local competitors WDIO/WIRT (channels 10 and 13) and the Northland’s NewsCenter (KBJR/KRII and KDLH) conclude at 7 a.m.

Fox 21 launched its 9 p.m. newscast in 2007, adding a 6 p.m. newscast three years later.
