Dardenella “Dixie” L. Dinkel, 85, formerly of Minong, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, in Middle River Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Dixie was born Nov. 8, 1922, in Wheeler, Wis., to Charles and Emma Shaw. She graduated from Colfax High School.
Dixie was an Army veteran having served with the WAC’s as a surgical technician during World War II. She was also a model and a hotel hostess.
She is survived by special friends, Daniel Celentano and Bonnie Patrick; a brother, Charles (Olene) Shaw of Solon Springs; several nieces and nephews; and her great-aunt, Xelpha Drinkwine of Superior, who is 105 years old.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William B. on Jan. 3, 1987; seven sisters; and two brothers.
Her memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th St., Superior. ELCA Lay Minister James McCusker will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
If desired, memorials in Dixie’s name may be made to the Middle River Health Facility activity fund.
