The UW-River Falls women’s basketball team snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 70-41 win over the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets Wednesday night in River Falls.
UWS opened the game with a jump shot from Gigi Hudson, but River Falls answered with a couple of 3-pointers to take an 8-2 lead. The Falcons would hold onto the lead for the remainder of the first half, ending it at 33-17 advantage.
Caitlin Hunstock led River Falls 18 points while Krystal Parr and Sarah Schoeneck each had 14 and Jenna Hanson had 11.
The Falcons were 29-49 in total field goals (.490) and 15-19 in free throws (.789). They were also 7-23 in three pointers (.304).
Lisa Thielen led Superior in scoring with nine points while Hudson was second with eight.
Amanda Rounsville and Hudson each had five rebounds for the Yellowjackets, who were 14-of-40 from the field (.350) and 8-of-14 from the free-throw line (.571). They were also 5-of-18 in 3-pointers.
The ’Jackets also got six points apiece from Kaleigh Day and Rounsville.
Caitlin Hunstock opened the second half with a 3-pointer, followed quickly by a layup from Sarah Schoeneck to make it 38-17.
The Falcons would carry the lead for the rest of the second half, with Superior getting as close as 42-25 at 14:40.
UWS (4-16 overall and 1-11 in the WIAC, hosts UW-Stevens Point at 3 p.m. Saturday.
The Falcons (7-13, 1-10) are at UW-Eau Claire at 3 p.m. Saturday.
