Helping Out for Jan. 6, 2013: RSVP Douglas County seeks volunteers

Many area organizations wouldn't be able to keep going without help from volunteers. If you have a few free hours and are looking for a productive way to spend them, try responding to one of these listings. You'll get as much out of it as the organization does.

    FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM

The Foster Grandparent Program is recruiting volunteers to serve as tutors and mentors in the Duluth/Superior/Cloquet area at nonprofit sites such as day cares and schools. Foster Grandparents do a number of activities with children, from helping with homework to playing games or reading with them at their assigned location. Currently, there is a need for volunteers to serve in day cares, where they will play with and read to children and help them with number recognition and counting. There are ongoing needs in many area schools.

Foster Grandparent Program volunteers are men and women who must be 55 or older and volunteer between 15 and 40 hours a week. They receive a small, tax-free stipend, transportation assistance, training, vacation and sick leave, recognition, social activities and the satisfaction of knowing that they’ve made a difference in the life of a child.

If you or someone you know would enjoy giving time and talents for a rewarding experience, please call (715) 394-5384 or (888) 338-6492 or e-mail fgp@ccbsuperior.org.
