A man’s claim that he had shot two people in a Superior home this evening does not appear to be true, police said.
Officers from the Superior Police Department and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of shots fired about 5:05 p.m. in the area of North 24th Street and John Avenue, according to a police department news release.
Initial reports were someone in a nearby home was armed and possible gunshots had been heard.
One person exited the residence and reported possible gunshots as well as the activation of smoke alarms. Someone reported that an occupant in the home had shouted for someone to call 911, the release said.
Shortly afterward, a man came out of the home and said he had killed two people inside. He was arrested, and officers entered the home.
The only occupant inside was a child who was unharmed, police said. Though it appeared a gun had been discharged, there was no evidence that anyone had been hurt.
The man who claimed to have shot two people was taken to a hospital for a mental-health evaluation, police said.
The incident remains under investigation.
