A Superior family is staying with relatives after fire at their home Saturday morning caused about $20,000 in damage.

The blaze, at 5712 John Ave. on the city’s south side, was reported at 9:25 a.m., according to the Superior Fire Department. The occupants were home at the time, and were able to evacuate safely and call 911 from outside the house.

Firefighters found smoke coming from several roof vents of the single-family home, and were able to contain the fire to the attic and an upstairs bedroom. The fire left the home uninhabitable, the fire department reported.

The cause of the fire was electrical. Crews were on the scene for about two hours.
