Registration for this winter’s Duluth Polar Bear Plunge has opened.

The annual plunge into the waters of Lake Superior off Canal Park will be Feb. 16, Special Olympics Minnesota announced in a news release. Check-in will be at Grandma’s Sports Garden, 425 S. Lake Ave., and the plunge will begin at 3 p.m.

This year, about 1,000 people took the plunge, raising more than $169,000 to support Special Olympics Minnesota, an organization that offers children and adults with intellectual disabilities year-round sports training and competition.

Registration takes place online at plungemn.org, where additional information is available. Each participant must raise a minimum of $75.
