A Superior Water, Light & Power van was stolen about 1 p.m. today.
“According on one of my workers, he was right outside the vehicle, probably about 5, 10 feet away from it. Some people walked past him, said ‘Hi,’ then the next thing you know they jumped in the vehicle and took off,” Tim Melby, SWL&P Gas and Water Operations manager, said.
The van was taken from the area of 17th Street and Cummings Avenue in Superior and taken to the area of Grand Avenue in Duluth.
“Our vehicles have GPS on them, and we made the police aware that if they needed it we could track it down,” Melby said.
“I did monitor it probably for the last half-hour, and it hasn’t moved, so I assume they have stopped it, but I haven’t heard back from them at this point,” he said about 2 p.m.
A call to a Duluth Police Department spokesman was not immediately returned.
