Mercer, Wis., woman dies after motorcycle hits deer

A Mercer, Wis., woman was fatally injured Wednesday in a motorcycle accident in Bayfield County.

The 49-year-old woman was one of a group of several motorcyclists southbound on Bayfield County C north of the Valhalla Recreation Area in the town of Bell when she hit a deer about 3:30 p.m., according to Bayfield County Sheriff’s Office. She was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Ashland, then flown to Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth. She was pronounced dead shortly after arrival in Duluth.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of family.
