Duluth Padres top Ashland Merchants

AMATEUR BASEBALL: The Duluth Padres defeated the Ashland Merchants 5-2 in an Upper 13 League contest Sunday at Minnesota Duluth’s Bulldog Park.

The Duluth Padres defeated the Ashland Merchants 5-2 in an Upper 13 League contest Sunday at Minnesota Duluth’s Bulldog Park.

Anthony Bush picked up his second victory of the season by pitching five innings and allowing one run on five hits and two walks. He had four strikeouts. Matt Chruscielski and Jesse Olson held the Merchants scoreless after relieving Bush.

Losing pitcher Bobby Tyndall tossed a complete game four-hitter and allowed two earned runs with six walks and six strikeouts.

Bob Baxton was 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored for Duluth (1-0 league, 2-2 overall), while Scott Ekstrom was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Ashland (0-1).
