Wisconsin-Superior’s quest to become the first Yellowjacket team to qualify for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball tournament was dashed after a disappointing finish to the season this weekend at Wade Stadium against Wisconsin-Whitewater.

The Warhawks swept the four-game set, beating UWS 12-11 in 11 innings and 15-9 on Friday, and then topping the Yellowjackets 18-1 and 8-2 on Saturday.

Rob Veith, Jeff Miller, Wyatt Soderquist and Shawn Lanners were among the offensive leaders for UWS (17-22 overall, 8-16 WIAC), which lost nine straight to close the season.

First baseman Marty Herum, meanwhile, was an offensive force for Whitewater (26-13, 16-8), with eight hits, four runs and seven RBIs on Friday alone.
