The Twin Ports is in line to receive 3 to 6 inches of snow through early Monday as a winter storm moves across the region.

Greater amounts are expected to the north, including the Iron Range, and lesser snowfall is forecast to the south, across Northwestern Wisconsin.

Snow is forecast to begin after midnight, be heaviest during the day Sunday, and wrap up late Sunday night. Winds will not be particularly strong - gusts to 25 mph are possible - but may still cause areas of blowing and drifting snow.

Here's a roundup of where things stand this morning, according to the National Weather Service:

  • A winter storm warning is in effect from midnight tonight through 6 a.m. Monday for the Iron Range, North Shore, International Falls and Grand Rapids areas. Snowfall of 5 to 8 inches is forecast for those areas.

  • A winter weather advisory is in effect from midnight tonight through 6 a.m. Monday for Duluth, Cloquet, Aitkin and Brainerd. Snowfall of 3 to 6 inches is forecast for those areas.

As of this morning, no warnings or advisories are in effect for Northwestern Wisconsin for Sunday. However, snowfall of 2 to 4 inches still is expected.

  • Some parts of Northwestern Wisconsin are receiving lake-effect snow this morning, with several inches of additional accumulation possible through midday.

  • Another, possibly stronger winter storm is forecast to affect the region Tuesday and Wednesday.
