UWS upends Stevens Point

Andy Singerhouse scored the winning goal at 5:48 of the third period to give Wisconsin-Superior a 2-1 victory at Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the opening round of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Peters Cup playoffs Friday night.

The Yellowjackets’ Chad Blanleil scored his first goal of the season, unassisted at 11:22 of the second period, to tie the game at 1-1.

Goaltender Drew Standberg did the rest, recording 14 saves overall but just one in the third period, to give UWS (10-9-7) a one-game lead heading into tonight’s second game of the playoff series. If Stevens Point (12-10-4) wins the rematch, a 20-minute mini-game would be needed.
