MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee lawmaker is proposing to make gas stations off-limits to Wisconsin residents carrying concealed weapons, even if they have a permit.
The bill's sponsor, Rep. Josh Zepnick, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that many station owners, employees and customers are among his constituents and have been victims of violent crime.
The Democrat said he has attended the funerals of two gas station workers killed while on the job, but he said he knows passing the bill is a long shot in the Republican-controlled Legislature.
Nik Clark, chairman of Wisconsin Carry, predicted that the bill has no chance of passage in Wisconsin, and that the trend nationally is to expand where those with permits can legally carry guns.
