The annual Christmas City of the North Parade in downtown Duluth will begin at 6:20 p.m. Friday. Here is some information about the parade from the Duluth Police Department.

ROUTE

The route is unchanged from last year. The parade will assemble on Railroad Street near Amsoil Arena, travel east to Lake Avenue, go north across Interstate 35 to Superior Street, and finally west on Superior Street to Fifth Avenue West.

ROAD CLOSURES

  • 2 p.m. — Railroad Street will be closed between Canal Park Drive and Garfield Avenue; Lake Avenue South closed to northbound traffic at Buchanan Street. Access to Canal Park and Park Point will be via Canal Park Drive.

  • About 6 p.m. — I-35 exit ramps to Lake Avenue closed; traffic to Canal Park and Park Point will need to use alternate routes to reach Lake Avenue.

  • During the parade, traffic on Superior Street should use Michigan, First or Second streets.

  • Access to the DECC and its parking lots will be available from I-35 via the Fifth Avenue West exit, or from downtown by taking Sixth Avenue West to Michigan Street to Fifth Avenue West. The only access to DECC parking lots will be at the east entrance near the Duluth 10 movie theater; drivers will need to take Harbor Drive around the back of the DECC.

  • Roads will reopen when the parade ends, at about 8:30 p.m.

  • No parking on both sides of Superior Street from Lake Avenue to Sixth Avenue West, both sides including handicap zones.

  • No parking on both sides of Michigan Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues West, both sides including handicap zones.
