Scotch tape was born in Two Harbors? Well, yes, in a way it was. Take a trip up the shore to a little museum where the giant corporation 3M got its start. The quaint little museum is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Articles of Incorporation were signed in this building in 1902. The building served as 3M headquarters until the company moved to St. Paul in 1916. This building pays tribute to the birthplace of the company and traces the growth of a well-respected corporation known throughout the world. Today, with more than 76,000 employees, 3M produces thousands of products, including adhesives, abrasives, laminates, dental products, electrical circuits and optical films. It has operations in more than 60 countries – 29 international companies with manufacturing operations, and 35 with laboratories. 3M products are available for purchase through distributors and retailers in more than 200 countries. The museum is open Monday through Friday from 12:30 to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Check out lakecountyhistoricalsociety.org for more information.
