Bob Dylan’s ‘Like a Rolling Stone’ draft sets record with $2 million sale at Sotheby’s - An unidentified bidder at Sotheby's auction house paid $2.045 million for an early draft of Bob Dylan‘s lyrics for his 1965 song “Like a Rolling Stone.” According to the auction house, the sale marked a world record for a popular music manuscript.

The draft was written in pencil on four sheets of hotel stationary, described by Sotheby's as “the only known surviving draft of the final lyrics for this transformative rock anthem.”

The document is an early draft, though, as some of the lyrics written did not make the final cut of the song. The document also includes random thoughts and pictures drawn by Dylan.

The buyer was not identified, but the auction house called him a “longtime fan from California,” according to media reports. He reportedly bought the manuscript directly from Dylan.
