Crex Meadows has a new workshop series starting this month. A Carnivore Tracking & Wolf Ecology Workshop is starts at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 12. Lunch and materials provided by a Citizen Science Monitoring Grant. Register by e-mail at email@example.com.
Hear about the various bird feeder types and what birds are attracted to them. Find out what kind of bird seed and other foods to use in your feeders. Learn where to put them in your yard as well. View the feeders and watch the birds in the backyard of Crex Meadows Wildlife Education & Visitor Center 1-4 p.m. Feb. 2 with a presentation at 2 p.m. No registration necessary.
Discover more about the birds in your backyard 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 23 with Bluebirds and Your Backyard Workshop. Bluebirds are a special bird we all look for as a sign of spring and warmer weather to come. You can have bluebirds in your backyard too. Join expert Iler Anderson from the Bluebird Restoration Association of Wisconsin as he shares his experiences about bluebirds. Learn about bluebirds, importance of their homes, and more. You will also have the opportunity to create, take home, and monitor your own bluebird house. Space is limited; registration required.
Help expert Bruce Bacon, retired from the Department of Natural Resources, band songbirds on 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 14. Attendees will see different methods to use to capture birds for banding and the variety of bands used. Participants will be able to hold, release and photograph birds. This will be a special experience for all involved. Space limited; registration required. Cost $8 adults, $5 children (under 12) to help offset banding expenses.
More workshops are in the planning process. Topics may include duck banding in August, wild rice processing in September and deer processing in October.
There will be a Candlelight Night 6:30-8:30 p.m. Jan. 26. Walk, snowshoe, or cross country ski the luminary one mile trail. Snowshoes available on first come, first serve basis.
