BEMIDJI, Minn. — Lake Bemidji Bed & Breakfast is getting new owners, and they plan to open the historic home to guests sometime next spring.
Dick and Jill Beardsley said this week they expect to finalize their purchase of the lakeside inn on Monday, taking over a home they have often visited and long wanted to own. The couple lives in Austin, Texas, and said they won't be able to move in for a couple months, and that they want to take about a year to settle in before they start taking reservations.
Dick, a motivational speaker and fishing guide, grew up in Detroit Lakes and in the 1980s was one of the world's best long-distance runners. Jill grew up in the South and is a gourmet breakfast chef.
"It's always been a dream of hers to have a bed and breakfast," Dick said. "I can't belive to tell you how excited we are. It's a dream come true."
The Lake Boulevard home occupies 3,000 square feet and is about 100 years old. In the early 1900s it housed some of the area's most prominent families--owned by a judge, a restaurateur, and the president of Security State Bank. It was restored in 1999 and has three guest bedrooms.
