Writing contest focuses on apart, together
Lake Superior Writers is accepting submissions for its annual 2014 Poetry, Fiction, and Creative Nonfiction Writing Contest on the theme “Apart/Together.”
“The theme was chosen after our board members looked back at 2013, a year that included a government shutdown, the passing of Nelson Mandela, and the 50th anniversary of the assassination of JFK,” said Marty Sozansky, Lake Superior Writer’s Board Chair. “These were experiences that affected many of us individually and collectively. Although these examples are national and international, we hope ‘Apart/Together’ will inspire writers to go in many directions.”
The contest is open to adults age 18 and older, and is free to members of Lake Superior Writers. Categories include Poetry (up to three poems), Short-Short Fiction (up to 500 words), Short Story (1,500-5,000 words) and Creative Nonfiction (1,500-5,000 words). One winner in each category will receive a prize of $250 and will have the opportunity to read from their work at the Lake Superior Writers annual meeting in the spring. The deadline is April 1
