UPDATE: No effort to fight Superior refinery fire; evacuations could last days

Wisdom of militarized police questionable

I find it quite disturbing that local police departments feel the need to militarize themselves.

They have done everything to make it a crime to oppose them in anyway, even verbally, yet now they are making themselves look like the U.S. military. The police chief needs to poll the citizens before he blows his horn, then people will get behind him on this one. They continue to make their job more hazard-free until at what point being a cop has no risk?

With modern weapons, body armor, and now military vehicles, they are setting themselves up to be able to wage war on civilians and win with little or no effort. Let us remind the chief that according to the latest federal government figures there are between 350 million and 500 million firearms in private civilian hands in the U.S. As more and more civilians are shot by law enforcement for little or no reason (see the latest news in Albuquerque, N.M.) the militarization of local law enforcement agencies comes into great question.
