The University of Wisconsin-Superior women’s hockey team improved to 7-2-3 with a 4-0 victory over Marian Friday night before 68 fans in Fond du Lac.

Kelsey Firkus, Amanda Coey, Dani Schultz and Karen Larson scored for the Yellowjackets and Shanley Peters picked up the shutout in goal with 12 saves.

Amanda Alexander had 28 saves for Marian (3-7)

The same two teams play against at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Men’s Hockey

The UWS men’s hockey team skated to a 3-3 overtime tie with Finlandia Friday night before a crowd of 143 in Hancock, Mich.

Finlandia took an early 2-0 lead as Travis Armstrong scored 26 seconds into the game and Thomas Kerr scored at 3:52.

Owen Stauber’s first collegiate goal got UWS within 2-1 on a power play at 13:27 of the first period.

UWS tied it up in the second period on Michael Rey’s shorthanded goal and Cody Hotchkin’s power-play goal.

Kevin Smith scored the game-winner for the Lions at 9:29 of the third period.

UWS had four shots and held Finlandia without a shot in overtime.

The same two teams play against at 3 p.m. Saturday.
