UWS men win at River Falls; women lose at Point

The University of Wisconsin-Superior men’s hockey team defeated UW-River Falls 2-1 in game one of their WIAC semifinal series Friday night at Hunt Arena in River Falls.

Game two of the series is at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.

Pat Dalbec and Brad Phenow scored goals for the Yellowjackets and Jordan Shockey and Michael Rey picked up assists.

Ryan Doner scored for the Falcons.

Dayn Belfour picked up the win in goal for UWS with 28 saves. Scott Lewan had 26 saves for UWRF.

Saturday’s game may be heard locally on KUWS 91.3 FM.

UWS women lose

The UWS women’s hockey team lost to UW-Stevens Point 2-1 in its WIAC semifinal series Friday night at Ice Hawks Arena in Stevens Point.

Emily Lester and Cassandra Salmen scored first-period goals for the Pointers, while Dani Schultz scored in the second period for the Yellowjackets with an assist from Kelsey Firkus.

Shanley Peters had 22 saves for UWS and Janna Beilke-Skoug had 33 saves for UWSP.

Game two of the series is at 7 p.m. Saturday.
