CANNON FALLS, Minn. -- Two people are reported dead in a multivehicle accident in Cannon Falls that involved a Minnesota State Patrol squad car.

The accident at 2:35 p.m. Friday occurred at County Road 24 and 65th Street, on the south end of Cannon Falls, about 35 miles south of St. Paul.

KSTP-TV, citing a State Patrol spokesman, said a trooper was responding to an emergency call when a vehicle pulled out in front of his squad car. The vehicles collided.

Two people in the other vehicle were killed and the trooper was airlifted to a Rochester hospital with injuries that weren’t life-threatening, KSTP said.

The State Patrol and Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office were investigating the crash, which apparently involved a third vehicle and one other victim.

No further details were immediately available, but authorities planned a 7:30 p.m. news conference in Cannon Falls.
