Train strikes Solon Springs woman, killing her
A 59-year-old Solon Springs woman was killed when she was struck by a train while walking with her dog in downtown Solon Springs Monday evening, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident was reported at about 6:15 p.m. at the County Highway A intersection with the CN tracks, just east of Business Highway 53.
According to witness reports, the woman left the grocery store and walked west until reaching the tracks where the stop arms were extended, and the lights and bells were active. She apparently walked around the the stop arms and was struck by the oncoming train.
She was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office reported.
Her identity is being withheld at this time pending notification of relatives.
The accident remains under investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the CN Railroad Police.
