Tiger hoop team drops pair

The Ashland Oredockers handed the Northwestern High School boys basketball team its second straight loss Tuesday night in Maple.

Ashland defeated Northwestern 51-49, coming on the heels of the Tigers’ 62-58 loss to Barron in double overtime Friday.

Ashland improved to 16-4 with the nonconference victory, while Northwestern fell to 13-6.

The Oredockers led for much of the game, and were up 40-33 to start the fourth quarter. The Tigers charged back to tie the game at 49-49 with less than a minute to play in the fourth quarter, but Ashland made a shot with seconds left to win 51-49.

Brayden Bartelt led Northwestern with 15 points, and Jeffrey Priem and Carter Shelafoe added nine points apiece.

Zach Whiting scored 12 points to lead Ashland, and Thomas Whiting added 10 points.
