Tiger boys hope eight is great
The Northwestern High School boys basketball team won its sixth straight game Monday then made it seven in a row on Tuesday.
The Tigers, 13-4 overall and 8-3 in the Heart O’ North Conference, defeated the Spooner Rails 60-40 and the Grantsburg Pirates 61-35.
Northwestern will attempt to win again at 7:15 p.m. today at Barron.
The Golden Bears (14-5) are currently in first place in the HON at 10-1.
Against Spooner (3-8, 3-12) Northwestern took a four-point lead after one quarter and led 27-20 at halftime. The Tigers sealed the victory with a strong second half, outscoring Spooner 33-20.
Brayden Bartelt made a trio of 3-pointers to lead Northwestern with 18 points. Trevor Paulus finished with 14 points, Jeffrey Priem had nine and Nate Pearson had eight.
TIGER TALES: Northwestern also plays at Chetek on Monday and hosts Ashland Tuesday. … Priem leads the Tigers in scoring with 10.6 ppg. Bartelt is next at 9.7 ppg. Alex Tecker and Pearson are both grabbing five rebounds a game apiece.
