The Northwestern High School boys basketball team finished the week with a 2-0 record. The Tigers defeated the Mellen Granite Diggers 77-40 on Monday then the Spooner Rails 41-30 Thursday. Bothe games were play in the NHS gym in Maple.

On Thursday, Trevor Paulas had 13 points and Jeffrey Priem added 10 as the Tigers improved to 8-4 overall and 4-3 in the Heart O’ North Conference.

Spooner (3-7, 3-5) got 10 points from Levi Hansen.

On Monday, each team scored 17 points in the first quarter, but the Tigers dominated the second quarter 20-8 for a 37-25 halftime lead.

Both teams were even again in the third quarter, scoring 15 points apiece, but the Tigers ran away from the Diggers with a 14-5 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Nate Pearson led Northwestern with 22 points. Jeffrey Priem added 17 points and Alex Tecker had 13. Northwestern’s score included four 3-pointers, three by Priem and the other by Travis Abrahamzon.

Thomas Peters led Mellen with 15 points.

The Tigers play at Ladysmith at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.
