Thomas Charles Marquardt

Thomas Charles Marquardt, 64, of South Republic, died on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Hospital in Iron Mountain, Mich. after a courageous battle with cancer.

Thomas was born on Sept. 15, 1949, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late Robert and Mary (Joyce) Marquardt. He grew up in Superior, Wis.I before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1967. He retired from the Air Force in 1987, with an Honorable Discharge and became an airline pilot for Southwest Airlines from 1987-2002. Thomas moved to Republic in 2003 to enjoy his retirement doing the things he loved best. Thomas was an avid hunter and fisherman; and loved the outdoors.

Thomas is survived by three children, Terry Marquardt of Boise, Idaho, Travis Marquardt,of Dallas, Texas and Holly Thompson of Dallas, Texas, one brother, Richard (Joni) Marquardt of Oconto, Wis., two sisters Edie (Tom) Haugen of Mesa, Ariz. and Roberta Edstrom of Madison, Wis., three grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by two brothers William and John Marquardt.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 8th at 1 p.m. in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, Wis.

A special thank you is extended to the entire staff at the VA Hospital for helping make Thomas' last days more comfortable. Also thank you to Jim Hofbauer, Thomas' good friend who helped both Thomas and the family during this most difficult time.
