Lee Kolquist of Duluth won the Nemadji Invitational with a 54-hole total score of 211, tying the tourney record. He fired rounds of 69-73-69 to edge defending champion Pat Fairchild of Duluth, whose 212 matched par. Bob Sundby was the top Nemadji finisher, his 217 good for a third-place tie with Ed Bergren of Duluth. Former Superiorite Jay Hill, now residing in Green Bay, was fifth at 218. (1980)

The Superior American Legion Junior baseball team spotted the powerful West Duluth nine three runs before rallying to take a 5-3 win. The Superior Reds went ahead in the fourth inning when Bill Levings and Brian Midbon drew walks to force in the tying and winning runs. (1981)
