Superior man sentenced for sex assault

Superior Telegram

A Superior man faces five years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman in her apartment.

In January, a Douglas County jury found Christopher Dean Bunten, 43, guilty of second-degree sexual assault for the January 2012 incident in Superior. He was found not guilty of an additional sex assault charge and one count of burglary.

Last month, Bunten was sentenced to five years in prison and 15 years of extended supervision. He was also ordered to undergo a chemical dependency evaluation and have no contact with the victim.

According to the criminal complaint:

Bunten was visiting the woman’s apartment that night with two other people. The woman went to bed, and later, the other three left. Although another member of the party locked the door, Bunten was the one to shut it.

Bunten returned to the apartment, went into the woman’s bedroom and sexually assaulted her. She told police she told Bunten “no” and bit him numerous times in self-defense.
