MADISON – A Superior man has been detained in federal custody this week after being indicted for allegedly producing child pornography in January.

Roger Aleshire, 48, was detained Monday after a brief appearance before Magistrate Stephen Crocker. An arrest warrant was issued for Aleshire on July 11, according to online court records.

A complaint unsealed Monday in court alleged that Aleshire used a cell phone to record videos in his residence of a minor female. In one video there is a full length mirror which shows a cell phone sticking out of Aleshire’s shirt pocket and a girl is getting off the toilet.

The complaint also alleged that: Aleshire asked the girl to lie on her back and spread her legs. Aleshire is seen taking her pants and underwear off which exposes her vaginal area. Aleshire is also seen touching the girl.

The date/time stamp on the video shows it was created on Jan. 27.

A search warrant executed at Aleshire’s 16th Street residence on March 17 recovered seven cells phones.

The phones were examined by Superior police earlier this month. Detective Michael Jaszczak identified a girl in one of the videos and spoke to her. She told Jaszczak that she was 9 years old.

Robert Ruth, Aleshire’s attorney, had no comment Wednesday on the case against his client.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Altman, who is prosecuting Aleshire, declined to specify the number of videos recovered from Aleshire or the basis for obtaining the search warrant of his residence.

Aleshire is scheduled to be arraigned before Crocker on Monday, July 21.

If convicted Aleshire faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a maximum of 30 years in prison.
