Squadron hosts open house, inducts hall of famers
Lake Superior Squadron 101 of the Commemorative Air Force holds its annual open house 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. In addition to honoring the 70th Anniversary of D-Day and the life of local U.S. Army veteran Adam Sheda, the squadron inducts its two newest members into the CAF’s Northland Aviation Hall of Fame.
Come on in and see how the restoration of the PBY-6A Catalina to flight status is coming along, and view everything the Armed Forces Museum has to offer with over 3,000 historic artifacts ranging from the Civil War to today. If you have not been there for a while many new items are now on display. As always, the museum is free.
At 11:30 a.m. there will be a short presentation by the American Legion Honor Guard presenting the colors, and two new members of the CAF’s Northland Aviation Hall of Fame will be inducted.
This year’s inductees are Al “Ammo” Amatuzio and Wayne “Whitey” Johnson.
After the presentations, the Blue Water Big Band performs from noon to 2 p.m. and following them will be the Harbormasters Choir until 4 p.m. Do North Pizza provides the food.
The Armed Forces Museum is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Wednesday and Saturday.
