Spartan girls nearly double up Hawks
The Superior High School girls basketball team thumped the Hermantown Hawks 81-41 Monday night in the HHS gym.
Jessica Lindstrom and Hailey Kontny each scored 24 points to spur the visiting Spartans, who are 10-2 on the season and 4-0 in the Lake Superior Conference. Alyssa Correll added 18 on the strength of five 3-pointers.
Superior also got two points from Taylor Nelson, who was playing for the first time since last year’s Grand Rapids game.
“I’m proud of the time and commitment Taylor put into rehab and it was a great moment to see her score in her first game since last season,” SHS coach Phil Roe said. “Our team played really well cohesive. The girls moved the ball very well and played tough pressure ‘D’ the entire night.
“I was very proud of their collaborative effort tonight, we are getting better as a team each week.”
Jordyn Thomas and Shania Bolen scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Hawks (7-6).
Superior hosts Duluth East today and plays at Eau Claire Memorial Friday. Both games begin at 7:30 p.m.
Friday’s game may be heard on WNXR 107.3 FM.
