SHS kickers finish 15-0 in Middle Border Conference

The Superior High School girls soccer team wrapped up a perfect season in the Middle Border Conference with a 5-0 win over Osceola Tuesday evening at the SHS soccer fields.

The Spartans won their second straight MBC championship with a 15-0 record. Overall they went 15-1 with their only blemish a season-opening overtime loss at Rice Lake.

SHS junior Malley O’Brien finished the regular season as the state’s leading scorer with 39 goals and 11 assists for 89 points.

Emily Mouille of Waunakee was second in goals scored with 34 goals and Kristin Mathiowetz of Regis/McDonell Central was second in points with 82.

O’Brien sealed her scoring title with two goals and an assist Tuesday night. She scored the game’s first goal in the eighth minute then finished the scoring with five minutes remaining.

Kennedy Grimstad, Missy Toland and Rachel Dixon also scored goals and Toland, Amber Welch and Bridget Manion dished out assists.

Up next for the Spartans is a WIAA regional game at D.C. Everest at 5 p.m. Thursday. Superior is the No. 8 seed and DCE is No. 1.

SPARTAN SPIN: Manion was Superior’s second-leading scorer with 16 goals and seven assists. Dixon was third with 11 goals and eight assists.
