Shootout returns to Superior
The second annual Benna Ford Roush Superior Watercross Shootout will take place Saturday and Sunday at Barkers Island Festival Park. The event includes approximately 180 participants racing snowmobiles on water.
Professional drivers from the International Watercross Association (IWA) will compete in both oval and drag races at speeds of up to 80 miles per hour.
“We are thrilled to be bringing this event back to Superior,” said event manager Kimberly Carr. “This fast paced, high adrenaline, extreme sport has such a wow-factor that people of all ages and backgrounds are getting excited about it.”
The weekend event includes racing all day Saturday and Sunday, food vendors, a beer garden, exhibit booths for the entire family and live music tonight and Saturday evening.
Racing begins at 10 a.m. both days and championship races will take place Sunday afternoon.
Spectators may purchase tickets on site for $15 for a day pass or $22 for a weekend pass.
Last year’s inaugural Shootout drew an estimated crowd of 1,500 people over the weekend.

Friday — Driver registration party at Norm’s Beer and Brats. Registration from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Lake City Smokin’ Section will take the stage for an outdoor concert at 8 p.m.
Saturday — Official after party at Barkers Island Inn. Live music on outdoor patio from FlipSide, music starts at 7 p.m.
Sunday — Awards ceremony at Barkers Island Inn immediately following the completion of racing.
A free shuttle to the Shootout will operate from the Mariner Mall (North 28th Street and Hill Ave.) parking lot.
The shuttle will be available on the south side of the mall, adjacent to Food Service Marketplace from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Please don’t park near the movie theather.
NOTES: The swimming beach and surrounding area, including the boat launch, will be closed to the public beginning today, with the exception of the Charter Fishing operations. … Barker’s Island Inn, Barker’s Island Marina and the Ship’s Store will be open as well as the SS Meteor, the offices of the Lake Superior National Extuarine Research Reserve and Captain J’s Minature Golf, located on the northwest end of the island. … Accessible handicap parking is available in the parking lot located on the northwest end of the island.
